The ruins of Corfe Castle stand proud above Corfe village on the Isle of Purbeck.
Built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, an Act of parliament six centuries later called for it to be demolished. Barrels of gunpower attacked its foundations, yet its ruins still command the landscape, inviting visitors yet keeping enemies away. It refuses to fade into the background.
